About Us

Thank you for visiting MSC!

My name is Michael Englert and I created My Sporting Chance. I'd like to tell you something about myself and how this innovative approach came into being...

Firstly - My Vision...

" To provide every MSC Player with an unfair advantage in dealing with their problems."

Today, everyone is familiar with the role of the Life Coach. Someone to support you in your positive change. That's why I created MSC- to support positive change!! An ON-LINE way to identify a problem and use a methodical approach to gain a perspective that can lead to a personalised, successful outcome to your problem.

My Experience and Qualifications.

I've been a qualified (NSW Registered Pyschiatric Nurse since 1981) mental health professional for over 30  years. I specialised in addiction treatment(s) in all kinds of settings i.e. detox units, outpatient clinics, pharmacotherapy programs and counseling. I'm experienced with many therapeutic approaches including, psychotherapy, cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), gestalt, psychodrama, 12 Step Programs (AA, NA, Al-Anon), Narrative therapy, Motivational Interviewing and more.

In my 33 year professional career I've met literally thousands of people with all kinds of problems to do with substance misuse and other life issues... Some have been very intelligent, some not, some with a good family life, good education and many not, some who've been abused, neglected and traumatised and others not. Everyone is different, yet, I can often tell whether or not a person can resolve their problem and meet the challenges of life - regardless of what their past has given them today. The crucial factor IN RESOLVING a problem is not the problem itself,  but HOW THE PERSON THINKS ABOUT AND APPROACHES the problem.

I've noticed many treatment modalities are (unintentionally) biased toward the more affluent, more educated and not the marginalised, disadvantaged or poor. Some use jargon or concepts that aren't meaningful and have power dynamics in the therapeutic relationship that can reinforce  passivity in the person being helped. Not to mention the STIGMA some feel about going for help.

In My Sporting Chance, I try to solve some of these problems. MSC is on-line & confidential so there isn't any stigma about seeking help. No shame about being Coached! A MSC Player is totally involved in their approach and development of their New Game Plan. They are Active (and responsible!) - not passive.

At some time, you've probably played or watched a sporting match. Maybe you've been coached by someone and improved your sporting performance as a result. If you did win, I imagine you felt good about being on the winning team. If you won the grand final, YOU got the trophy because it was you, the PLAYER, who went onto the field of play and achieved the Victory!!

Game On !!
